ardone is the continuation of the beautiful Salò, but reveals its totally touristic spirit even in winter, with an elegant decor and a rather serious setting, tracing the atmosphere of composed elegance of the Grand Hotel, built in 1884, which stands out at the beginning of the lake walk.
You cannot miss a visit to the Vittoriale and the magnificent Hruska botanical gardens.
The “Vittoriale degli Italiani” is a monumental citadel that extends for about nine hectares, in the Municipality of Gardone Riviera.
D’Annunzio prepared it between 1921 and 1938 thanks to the collaboration with the architect Gian Carlo Maroni to whom he entrusted the task of closing his “memories” in a “stone case”.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES OF ITALY: BORGHETTO – CASTELLARO LAGUSELLO – TREMOSINE
BORGHETTO: an ancient mill village on the Mincio.
Borghetto is a small nucleus of settlements built in 1400 around a series of water mills, for grinding wheat and piling rice, in a particularly happy spot along the course of the Mincio river.
It is highly recommended to reach Borghetto by bicycle from Peschiera. About 15 km (+ return)
The typical dish: The Tortellini di Valeggio. Special with melted butter and sage, but also excellent in broth, the famous Valeggio tortellini dominate the first courses (strictly handmade, you can buy them in many pasta factories in Valeggio and Borghetto).
Here the tortellino is called “love knot” because it would remind the knot of a silk handkerchief woven by two lovers before throwing themselves into the Mincio.
